Message from Jochem Myjer: Swim along!

September 14th is the day. Swimming through the most beautiful city in the Netherlands with a cheering crowd urging you to the finish. One of the most fun events in our little town. The charity always speaks to me as well: improving the lives of people with spinal cord injuries. In 2011, after a tumor in my spinal cord, I narrowly escaped a spinal cord injury. I am eternally grateful to the doctors of Neurology at LUMC for that. A portion of the money will be used by them for research. Yet another reason to swim. It seems there’s also a kids' swim now! So, every resident of Leiden can join! No more excuses. I wish everyone the best of luck, and if you’re not participating yet: sign up.

What is the Rapenburg Race?

The first Rapenburg Race was organized in Leiden on the 23th in June 2018. The Rapenburg Race is an 800 meter swimming competition through the most famous canal in the Netherlands. In 2018, money was raised for educational projects for refugee children. The second edition was organized the 21st of September 2019. The money that was raised went to research to improve the quality of life for people with paraplegia.
